AUTHENTIC MOVEMENT

* Over Authentic Movement

Authentic Movement was developed by dancers/ choreographers Mary Starks Whitehouse Janet Adler and Marian Chace as a movement process that originated in the fifties. Researched, developed and applied by choreographers / dancers Mary Stark Whitehouse (Movement in depth), Janet Adler (discipline of authentic movement) and Marian Chase (American Dance Therapy Association first president in 1966-1968 - Authentic Movement Therapy). All three have also worked as movement therapists. Inspired by Jungian ideas, Authentic Movement has developed as a form of therapy. A complete self-directed form, in which individuals discover a path of movement that forms a bridge between the conscious and the unconscious. >>"The symbols of the self arise in the depths of the body and they express its materiality every bit as much as the structure of the perceiving consciousness. The symbol is thus a living body."<< — C.G. Jung
