THE ARTIST IS RESIDENT
The Artist is Resident (TAiR) ano 2019 was a performance ritual concept that has been developed throughout my residency at PleinTheater in Amsterdam. My aim was to create a space where I could move towards my authenticity using authentic movement as a tool for performance, while the audience could witness my journey. Together with my partner Vincent Verburg, we created a structure of sound and visuals around my movement that allowed me to dive into dancing with eyes closed for two hours.
The score of the soundscape (live and digital) and visuals provide a context in which I was able to freely follow the dramaturgy of my body. The audience were free to move everywhere around the performance space and perceive my process fromout different views. TAiR was created as an open concept where ideally other collaborations with different movers and musicians could happen as well.
Next to the performance we offered individual authentic movement sessions, collective interventions in public spaces and a series of open dialogues (The Role of the Body Now) with participants of different ages, gender, origin, fields and practises.
It was then when the need to exchange horizontally with the fields of neuroscience, bodywork, anthropology and literature arose. Open online physical practises and dialogues continued into the pandemic. Our performance creation practice together with the ongoing interdisciplinary dialogue between the different fields let us find a source of creation that helped us as artists to keep on developing creation and its processes.
